The Route

The Route

The Umfurudzi Trail Run has four different route options available.

For the hardcore, the inaugural Umfurudzi Ultra is a 50km loop, starting at sunrise, taking in views of the Mazowe River, Hippo Pools and the hills overlooking the Mazowe and Umfurudzi valleys as well as a number of dams, waterholes and points of interest.  The route will be run in an anticlockwise direction this year, the reverse of last years event.  The first 30km is in the Hills along the ridge and has a tough start but it is in the coolest part of the day.  A fantastic water point and swim awaits at Hippo Pools around 30km in and the last 20km is relatively flat back home.  This will be an experience not to be forgotten.

The 25km trail is figure of 8 that starts in the camp, returns at approximately halfway and then finishes in camp by the swimming pool.   The 12.5km route starts in camp and is the second half of the 25km route.  The first section climbs gradually to Dam 5 after which it descends down to the Umfurudzi River and through the riverine forest back home.  The 7.5km route goes along the same 25km track and runs from Dam 5 back to camp.  Because this option starts away from camp, participants are requested to be ready 30 minutes before the start time to be transferred to the start.

More information on each option will be available soon including the route profiles and descriptions by stage.

Spectators are also to watch sections of the course without having to go far from the start/finish area and the camp and swimming pool. A spectator map will be made available with routes, water points and spectator accessible areas.
